what are xenogenders?

definition & basic explanation

formal definition:
"A gender that cannot be contained by human understandings of gender; more concerned with crafting other methods of gender categorization and hierarchy such as those relating to animals, plants, or other creatures/things."

basic explanation:
Xenogenders are used by mainly autistic/neurodivergent individuals to make them feel more comfortable with their gender identity, due to not being able to explain their gender in any other way. Though there is a myth that xenogenders baby autistic people, this is not true as they are merely a way for people to express their gender in a way that feels right and comfortable, while also not being harmful in any way

extra information:
The term xenogender was coined in 2014 by Tumblr user Baaphomett in a submission to the MOGAI-Archive blog

neopronouns

what they are and why they are used

Neopronouns, also known as “new pronouns” are pronouns that people use instead of he/him, she/her and they/them, such as xe/xir or cat/cat’s/catself, neopronouns are often used by people who use xenogenders, though pronouns do not equal gender and thus that isn’t always the case.

.

Neopronouns are used when somebody isn’t comfortable with he, she or they pronouns and instead feel as if neopronouns represent them better. Or some people like me, who do use those pronouns, but still feel comfortable with using neopronouns along with them, the same way someone uses “he” and “she” at the same time instead of just one of them.
